If you were part of last week’s wild Q&A you knew this was coming…
My mom’s song based on my work!
She sang it publicly mid-September at Deepak Chopra’s conference at Harvard (yup, all the parts of that sentence) and she shared with us in the Q&A some behind-the-scenes on how she approached the banter in between, which for many musicians feels SO different from performing the songs themselves.
And about the breakthrough she had.
Which—spoiler—definitely made me cry with that tingly sense that I was inside a *big moment* in my life.
My mom, am I right??
So anyway yeah this week, I’m sharing the song she wrote based on my book.
(Which PS she wrote BEFORE Kamala was the top of the ticket.)
AND am also directing you over to read my friend and reason-I’m-on-Substack
’s latest piece! Her behind-the-scenes as part of the Oprah/Kamala “Unite for America” event last week is a gorgeous to-do list for SHOWING UP.Take the leap and put yourself in the room, lean on allies, make new friends, listen to your body, focus on the good, practice out loud, deal with your mind. It has it all!
Shannon and I texted day-of and she told me she had at first been hard on herself afterward for her voice cracking when speaking with Oprah and Kamala—but then thought of me and told herself:
“Samara would say that’s a human voice, not a flaw.”
100%
And a human voice is a gift.
LITERALLY ALWAYS.
Love,
Me
PS. If you know you need to get better at pitching click that link and check out HOW TO PITCH. After much requests for it, I made this doable and deep training (reverse-engineered from my insane year of pitching a podcast and book, with all my best secrets!). Every once in a while I hold office hours for anyone who’s purchasec it, and the next one is… TOMORROW, Thursday at 10a PT.
So this is the BEST TIME to grab the 90 min workshop, watch on your own with all your big ideas popping, and then join live (or watch after) for feedback and hands-on support from moi.
Pitching gets you yeses. Pitching is justice work. Pitching makes us all more human.
Feedback from folks who’ve taken it:
“This session was INCREDIBLE. It felt like a warm hug. I laughed, I cried. And the very next morning...I had the start to an outline for an idea I've had for YEARS.”
“I loved this workshop! I felt so energized during and after, and I walked away feeling both in my body and confident about sharing more of myself. The invitation to spread care resonated, and it was the exact message I needed to hear as I promote my debut book. THANK YOU for what you are putting into the world, Samara.”
“That was one of the most insightful webinars I've attended in a long time!! Not only did you make it relatable, but it was also a topic that I've never heard anyone talk about. I held tears back because you hit the bullseye for me. I didn't know how to articulate what I felt all these years, and kept saying this is just who I have to be to survive and be taken seriously. Biggest takeaway is that you ignited hope that I can work on finally being free wholeheartedly.”
Thank you so much for sharing the song! It was so beautiful to witness this moment
